Fincantieri Marinette Marine was awarded a USD795.1 fixed-price incentive, firm-target contract on 30 April from the US Navy (USN) for detail design and construction (DD&C) of the FFG(X) class of guided-missile frigates in the company's Wisconsin shipyard, with additional firm-fixed-price and cost reimbursement line items.

Awarded about three months ahead of schedule, the contract, with options, includes the delivery of up to 10 FFG(X) ships, post-delivery availability support, engineering and class services, crew familiarization, training equipment, and provisioned item orders. If all options are exercised, the cumulative value of this contract will be about USD5.58 billion.

The total cost of the lead ship, including government-furnished equipment, is about USD1.28 billion, James Geurts, the assistant navy secretary for Research, Development and Acquisition, told reporters during a 30 April phone-in press conference about the contract award.
