US-based technology integrator Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has completed its acquisition of Unisys Federal from US-based information technology company Unisys.

SAIC said on 16 March that it finalised the purchase on 13 March for USD1.2 billion in cash.

SAIC, which announced the deal in February, said the acquisition will enhance its capabilities in the fast-growing area of IT modernisation and increase its access to new and existing customers.

Unisys Federal has about 2,000 employees and serves various US federal agencies, including the US Air Force and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

The company plans to use the proceeds from the sale largely to pay down debt and reduce pension obligations.
