The US Navy (USN) continues to face capacity issues in trying to keep its ships maintained, Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) CEO Michael Petters said.

"The overall outlook for ship maintenance is that there's more maintenance to be done than there is really capacity right now in the system to do it," Petters told investment analysts on 7 November during a quarterly conference call to discuss the shipbuilder's financial performance.

"And so the [USN] secretary, the assistant [USN] secretary, the CNO [chief of naval operations], the industry have been working hard to try to figure out how do you get more readiness per dollar because maintenance translates into readiness in terms of language," Petters said.
