Schneider Electric France has been awarded a subcontract to design the main direct current (DC) switchboard for Australia’s new Attack-class submarines.

The switchboard will control, and manage the distribution of power between the submarine’s diesel generators, batteries, main motor, and auxiliary power systems, Australia’s Department of Defence has said in a media release.

“Design of the switchboard will be undertaken as other aspects of the submarine’s design are developed to ensure capability requirements for the Attack class are met,” the department added.

As part of the contract, Schneider Electric Australia will also become the design authority in sustaining this switchboard across all vessels in the Attack class.
