US President Donald Trump is reportedly assessing if the government will send a previously announced USD250 million in security assistance aid to Ukraine.

Trump is transitioning to a policy whereby overseas aid must be justified, so while Ukraine is not alone in coming under this scrutiny, it will have to undergo a policy review before the security co-operation funds are authorised, according to a Reuters report citing two unnamed White House officials.

Trump believes that the US alone should not be relied upon to supply military aid, that other nations should also be responsible when it comes to shared security interests, and that aid allocated by the US should be allocated by priority.
