The Australian government has awarded grants worth AUD12.4 million (USD8.4 million) to small local businesses that are developing or supporting capabilities regarded as “critical” for national defence.
The funding – awarded through the government’s Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities (SICP) scheme – was awarded to 21 companies across a range of capability themes, announced the Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra on 9 August.
It added, “Grant recipients include manufacturing companies supporting our land combat vehicles, businesses undertaking research and development on cutting-edge technologies, and local businesses delivering the government’s naval shipbuilding plan.”
