- The Philippine Navy has commissioned an ex-South Korean Po Hang-class corvette
- The vessel will significantly improve the service’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities
The Philippine Navy has commissioned a Po Hang-class corvette that was formerly in service with the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN).
The vessel, which has been renamed BRP Conrado Yap (39), was inducted in a commissioning ceremony on 5 August at the RoKN’s Jinhae Naval Base. It was formerly in service as Chungju (762) and was retired from the RoKN in December 2016.
While it was in service with South Korea, the corvette took on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) patrols near the Northern Limit Line, among other duties.
