The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) reported on its website on 31 July that Typhoon fighters scrambled from Ämari airbase in Estonia on 28 July to intercept a Russian Il-76 transport flying close to the country’s airspace.

Four Typhoons from the RAF’s XI(F) Squadron, attached to 121 Expeditionary Air Wing, have been on 24/7 quick reaction alert (QRA) at Ämari since 3 May after arriving on 24 April for a four-month rotation as part of Operation ‘Azotize’ in support of NATO’s Baltic air policing mission.

The RAF said this was the 14th QRA scramble since the beginning of the rotation.
