The MRTT is the first French medical evacuation version, with the capability of carrying up to 10 seriously wounded or 40 lightly wounded personnel.

The DGA said the versatility of the MRTT will allow it to replace two different fleets: C-135FR and KC-135R aerial tankers and A310 and A340 strategic transports.

Analysis

French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly ordered the acceleration of MRTT deliveries in September 2018.
