S-400 air defence systems began arriving in Turkey on 12 July, the Turkish Ministry of Defence has announced on its website.
The ministry said that the first equipment for the system arrived at Mürted Air Base northwest of Ankara. Open source tracking of the ADS-B transponders on Russian An-124 transports showed the aircraft landing at the airbase.
“It is up to allies to decide what military equipment they buy. However, we are concerned about the potential consequences of Turkey’s decision to acquire the S-400 system,” a NATO official told Jane’s on 12 July. “Interoperability of our armed forces is fundamental to NATO for the conduct of our operations and missions.
