US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control an undefinitised contract, with a not-to-exceed value of USD174,970,959 million, to upgrade the AGM-158C Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM).
Developed and fielded under an accelerated programme to meet the requirements of Offensive Anti-surface Warfare (OASuW) Increment 1 programme, LRASM is a 2,400 lb (1,088.6 kg) high-subsonic conventional precision-guided standoff anti-ship missile that leverages the basic design of the AGM-158B Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile - Extended Range (JASSM-ER) weapon system. With a stated air-launched range of ‘greater than 200 n miles’ (370 km), the AGM-158C retains the JASSM-ER 1,000 lb penetrator/blast fragmentation warhead, but introduces a multimode sensor/seeker package – which combines a passive radio frequency long range sensor (developed by BAE Systems) for wide area target acquisition and an imaging infrared seeker for terminal targeting – a weapon data link L-Band Unit (LBU) supplied by ViaSat, and an enhanced digital anti-jam GPS.
