High-ranking North Korean and Russian officials have discussed plans for military co-operation between their two countries, according to a 4 July press release by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The talks were held in the North Korean capital Pyongyang between North Korean Defence Minister General No Kwang-chol and a delegation from the Russian MoD led by Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin, who was quoted in the statement as saying that the defence ministries of the two countries "have a joint plan for bilateral co-operation".

Col Gen Fomin said the plan includes a whole range of activities, including exchanges between members of the General Staff and between members of the higher military educational institutions in North Korea and Russia.
