Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is in negotiations with Bombardier to acquire the Canadian group’s commercial CRJ business, the two corporations confirmed in separate statements on 5 June.
The talks follow Bombardier’s announcement in early May that it plans to consolidate its aerospace capabilities into a single streamlined business unit named Bombardier Aviation.
In its statement, MHI said that it is in “advanced negotiations” to acquire the CRJ unit. It added, “It is true that we are in discussions relating to a possible transaction involving Bombardiers regional jet programme.… However, [no] corporate decision [has] been made, nor are there any prospects as to the contents of such a transaction.”
