BAE Systems Inc has completed the acquisition of Riptide Autonomous Solutions' unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) product line, which it will integrate with new payloads and processing equipment to further develop the systems for emerging maritime mission roles.
The Plymouth, Massachusetts-based company will now fall under BAE Systems' Electronics Systems business line, and several employees will join the company's Fast Labs research and development organisation.
Riptide develops "sophisticated yet simple" UUVs, which are discriminatory in that that offer increased levels of depth, range, endurance, and speed.
BAE said that it will add its sonar, signal processing, sensor fusion, undersea communications, and electronic warfare capabilities to these UUVs, which will provide customers with what it deems to be an affordable offering for global defence, commercial, and research markets.
