The Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira: FAB) is expected to receive its first Embraer E-99M airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft in the first half of 2020, the service's procurement organization, Comissão Coordenadora do Programa Aeronave de Combate (COPAC), recently told Jane's .
Two E-99s are undergoing modernisation to the configuration E-99M, the COPAC added. The E-99s were reportedly received from Embraer between 2002 and 2003.
Embraer Defesa & Segurança was awarded a contract in January 2013 to modernize the five E-99s of Squadron Guardião, based at Air Wing 2 in Anápolis, State of Goiás. It includes installing new mission consoles, a TSC 2050 identification friend or foe (IFF) transponder, an integrated electronic standby instrument, provisions for Link BR2 tactical datalink system, and a new communication system. It also includes upgrading onboard command-and-control (C2) software, electronic warfare suite, and Erieye long-range airborne radar system, as well as acquiring mission planning and analysis stations.
