National defence ministries across Europe are set to soon approve a new approach to guide the shape and timing of defence capabilities as they develop in support of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy objectives. This will be tied directly to the priorities of the EU's Capability Development Plan (CDP).

The European Defence Agency (EDA) has put the finishing touches on its initial round of strategic context cases (SCCs) to guide the development of European defence capabilities. These will be submitted for approval in June 2019 to national capability and armaments directors of the agency's 27 defence ministries (comprising those of all EU nations except Denmark).
