The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has been linked with a potential move to acquire Bombardier’s Northern Irish aerospace subsidiary.
News reports in Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom said on 4 May that AVIC and its sister company, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), have emerged as potential front runners to buy the Belfast business.
Bombardier, which is headquartered in Canada, announced on 2 May that it planned to divest its Belfast subsidiary as part of wider programme to consolidate its aerospace capabilities under one streamlined business unit. Under the plan, another Bombardier aerospace manufacturing site in Morocco will also be divested.
