Turkish company Aselsan publicly released details of its Fersah hull-mounted sonar for the first time at the International Defence Industry Fair 2019 (IDEF 2019) exhibition, held in Istanbul from 30 April 30 to 3 March.

According to a press release from Aselsan, the Fersah system is designed to provide frigates and corvettes with an anti-submarine warfare capability as well some degree of ability to detect mines.

Under a contract signed between Aselsan and Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries in 2018, the Fersah sonar will be installed on the Turkish Navy’s Barbaros-class frigates, where it will replace the Raytheon AN/SQS-56 system.
