A Philippine Navy frigate that ran aground near Half Moon Shoal in August 2018 will be out of service till the end of 2019, according to the service’s chief.

The frigate, BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (FF 15), ran aground while it was on routine patrol operations in the South China Sea. All 117 of the vessel’s crew members were unharmed, but both its propellers were severely damaged in the incident.

The frigate is now awaiting replacement parts from the US, which will be available only at the end of 2019, said the Philippine Navy’s flag-officer-in-command, Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, in a report published by the official Philippine News Agency.
