New legislation has been proposed to protect the United States’ “technological supremacy” over emerging defence markets, and suppress a rise in the transfer of dual-use technology, through the establishment of an Office of Critical Technologies & Security.

This federal entity would co-ordinate agencies to develop a long-term strategy to protect against “state-sponsored technology theft”, as well as identified risks to critical supply chains.

The proposed new office is part of the response to growing concerns that countries such as China are posing a threat to US industry as it increases its holding in the market and offers technologies that Washington relies on.
